Access to Resources
The Beautiful Gate Youth Resource Centre was launched on 9 June 2010 when we realized that there was a great need for information among youth, families and local organisations.
The facility consists of an IT centre and a library which has a catalogue of informational resources including spiritual, vocational, employment and social services.
The Youth Resource Centre helps an average of 1400 people every month. From Primary and Secondary School learners seeking homework support and career guidance, to unemployed Youth looking for their next step.
The aim of the centre is to provide young people with career and educational opportunities empowering them to reach their potential and dreams. Activities include career and skills days, computer training as well as support with bursary and further education applications.
"The heart of the Resource Centre is to reduce poverty and unemployment in the Philippi and Lower Crossroads communities."
Reaching for the future
Beautiful Gate introduced a 3-year Career Mentoring and Life Skills Project in 2014, which focuses on Grade 11 learners who are doing Maths and Science - with the hope that some of them will go to Universities or access internships and learnership opportunities.
This special programme is being run for youth from our partner secondary schools – New Eisleben High, Vuyiseka High, Phakama High, Phandolwazi High and Philippi High. Focused career guidance sessions in schools, coupled with computer training and tutor support have allowed us to start a process of helping high school learners reach their potential!
Our first learners graduated from the programme at the end of 2015 - we wish them well as they take their first big steps into college, university and learnerships.
