Luyolo Ruka is A learner education support coordinator/Tutor at Beautiful Gate S.A
Here's what his day looks like at Beautiful Gate.

Around 7am: I would get up in the morning and get ready for work. I start my day with a prayer and that normally happens in the shower so it’s the singing that makes it special.

08h30: I do breakfast at home so by the time I am at work it’s just coffee and emails. I  also plan for the day as well when i get to work.

10h00: Sometimes I have site meetings and team meetings so that’s part of my day as well. By 12 o’clock I need to sort out snack for children. I go out to the market to buy fresh fruit.

12h00: I check on my team to see what still needs to be done for the learners.

13h30: lunch is usually lunch on the run. I have to do weekly reports as well and monthly reports. As the day goes  I need to document each day so that by the end of the week I have a report.

14h30: Now this time is busy because  I drive the other tutors to their schools and then i go back to mine.

15h00: When I get to school the learners do their attendance register and a prayer before we start the class. I do homework checks and then if there is time for an activity I share it with the learners. If it’s extra mural activities day children finish class at 15h30 to do extra mural activities.

16h30: After the activities and homework we prepare snack as a class and clean up.

17h00: When the children leave, I lock up and go back to the office to park the car and head home, sometimes I just go straight to church before I go home.

19h00: The first thing I do when I get home is to eat and then read or watch television.

    Crossroads Child

Welcome to a window into the lives and issues facing children in the Crossroads community on the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa. Most of these stories centre around the children and families we work with at Beautiful Gate South Africa, a Christian non-profit organisation whose mission is to show God's love as we care for and protect children, empower and preserve families and mobilise our community to do the same.
